Description
Antique Wood and Brass Metronome Seth Thomas De Maelzel With Bell Chime Working. It’s a beautiful piece of musical history! Dark Mahogany Color with Brass trimmings. It appears to be working well and Bell chimes as it should. I did let it wind down and wound back up a couple of times. I also moved the Bell Chime adjustment through all positions and it changed timing of the chime as it should.
I did do a minor outside dusting with Liquid Gold. I Did not touch the inner workings at all. They do appear to have some dust on them, but really doesn’t look like much at all for the age of the metronome! The wood is very pretty and does have age crackling of the stain/varnish as would be expected. There are some scratches and a small chip out of cover corner. Looks like it was well taken care of.
The bottom cover plate is not original to the piece. There is some writing on the bottom. Maybe Grandad added the bottom??
Seth Thomas started making Metronomes around 1887. Hard to tell exactly when this one was made. Guessing it is pre-1930’s from the Instructions/written inside the front cover.
