    Description

Scholar-Scroll Cabinet was a special piece of furniture in a scholar's study during Ming-Qing dynasty. Scholars might use the lower cabinet for storage of books and paintings; and use the open top cabinet to display their personal collections of jade, stone or snuff bottles etc. The top cabinet doors are decorated with open-carved "scholar-scroll" design. The doors are made with wooden hinge and can be easily removed. The embossed copper hardware on the three drawers are crafted into unique "bat" shape, which indicates the "happiness" in Chinese tradition. The cabinet is handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and tenon structure,  which is the very traditional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. Circa early 19th century. Original patina and wear. Made from core of Elm wood with beautiful wood grain, the cabinet is very solid and has been kept in excellent condition.
