  • Condition: This extremely unusual piece is a wonderful representation of the spiritual side of Asian practices. This large ancestor cabinet would have been prominently placed in an important home as a reminder to the family lineage and often times housed ancestral tablets or images of ancestors along with offerings. The spirits were felt to dwell in the tablets so once they were removed from the cabinet so would the spiritual attachment. This beautiful hand made temple cabinet comes in two large pieces, the roof separates from the center and base unit. There are two drawers and wide open storage in the center part. This entire shrine has been hand made from elm wood and covered in a burgundy lacquer which is in quite good shape. Wear is consistent with age and use, it is in excellent condition. Today a more modern use of this cabinet would be for storage or a fabulous decorative piece in an unusual space. Seller is happy to provide further information and photos upon request.
  • Age: 1800-1849
